Client REDstack
REDstack develops the necessary RED-technology (reverse electro-dialysis), which is applied to the Blue Energy project, and makes it larger to be ready for the marketed.
Blue Energy is a new technology that allows the difference in salt concentration between fresh and salt water can be used for the extraction of energy. Positive and negative particles are separated by ion-selective membranes in such a way, that there is power. This process is called reverse electro-dialysis. The pilot plant at Breezanddijk is a perfect location for Blue Energy by the presence of a large amount of fresh and salt water.
The project on the Afsluitdijk is the result of intensive collaboration between REDstack in Sneek, Wetsus technological institute in Leeuwarden, and membrane supplier Fujifilm Tilburg. The combination of research and technology provides a solid foundation for Blue Energy. How the technique is practiced on Breezanddijk is unique in the world. REDstack, Fujifilm, Wetsus, Province of Friesland – from The New Afsluitdijk – and Samenwerkingsverband Northern Netherlands (SNN) to finance the pilot plant.
